Been busy as hell lately. Went from being an unemployed loafer to working like crazy. It feels great to have a job again. It is an overnight job. I am under the gun for 9-10 hours trying to get the Target ready for 8:00 in the AM. It seems that 9-10 hours would be enough time to get things done, but that time passes like crazy especially when things have to be done in a hurry. My body is still confused. It is trying to ajust to the new schedule. Well, I havent watched a whole slew of movies. I did get to see Isolation, Testament, Seconds, and Pan's Labyrinth. Isolation was an alright movie. It lacked in many areas but still had some pretty cool ideas. It was about genetic mutations in cattle due to experiments in making a faster way to produce more cattle. The only actor I knew was Sean Harris, the guy who played Ian Curtis in 24 HR Party People. Testament was a movie from the early 80's. It was one of the many films that came out at that time about nuclear war. This one revolves around a nuclear bomb that goes off in San Franisco. The town that it takes place in is miles away, but the fallout begins to effect the whole town. The central characters are a mother and her children(the youngest child being Lukas Haas). The mother keeps a diary of whats happening in the town and within her family. Its not a very happy movie by any means. Seconds is a John Frankenheimer movie made in the late 60's. Its about a older man who is contacted by an old friend about a company that deals in changing the identity of the individual giving them a new face and a new life. The older man goes through with the process finding himself in regret. Very interesting movie. Worth putting on the netflix list. Pan's labyrinth is Guillermo Del Toros second Spanish speaking film to take place during the Spanish Civil War(the first being The Devils Backbone). The fantasy element is there, but I felt that the bulk of the movie dealt more with the war itself. Very interesting period piece.
I actually found some cool indie movies coming out via the internet grapvine. Mostly horror and science fiction
Some news. A remake of CHUD is apparenly underway. Originally, it wasnt supposed to be the campy movie that it has become infamous for. It was supposed to be a truly scary movie. Maybe a rehash will do it some good. http://www.horror-fanatics.com/upcomingmovies/chudremake.html
The Men Who Fell http://www.themenwhofell.com/ Post apocalytic theme. Corporation hires convicts as a salvage team. Looks like it would appeal to fans of Hardware, Screamers, Mad Max, Fortress, and a few others I know I have forgotten. The website is very cool with good links related to the movie.
Automaton Tranfusion http://www.automatontransfusion.com/ Yet ANOTHER zombie movie. The title makes it sound like a scifi. By the looks of the trailer, it seems like a DOTD'04 knock off. Reading the synopsis has clarified it a bit though. There is a buzz surrouding this movie though.
... but now I am aware that there is a new Terry Gilliam movie getting a limited release this month. Its called Tideland.(appartently) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410764/
I dont know id this might be old hat, but this is a film that has been floating around on the internet for a while. It is directed by Neil Blumkamp, the guy helming the upcoming Halo movie.
I watched it yesterday on one of the movie stations. It sound like a really dumb movie when it first came out. I thought it would be just another arthouse movie that everybody had to jump on when it came out. It turned out that it really wasnt bad at all. It was actually a huge commentary on opposing views of philiosophy. It was really laid out in a really humorous and entertaining fashion.
